Antecedents
The decision to establish a new region called CEARA was approved by the General Assembly during the 19th World Congress of AITA/IATA held in Halden, Norway, in 1991.
Several attempts have been made to start this new region, to which the following countries belong: Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. The National Center of AITA/IATA in Mexico started to make some contacts. At the beginning, of all these countries only Mexico was member of AITA/IATA. The formation of the CEAR region was not an easy mission, since several of the countries of Central America were going through difficult periods during these years. During recent years, the National Center of Mexico also went through a reorganisation and could not take part in the formation of the CEARA region.
The president of FACE during the year 2000 (the current President of AITA/IATA, Mr Leo Tromp) took the initiative in October of 2000 to organise the First Meeting of theatrical representatives of the Central American Region within the framework of the Festival of Aruba, FITA 2000. In this meeting, Mr Julio César Monge, of El Salvador, accepted the representation of CEARA.
Organization
In a historical fact, the first General Asembly meeting of the CEARA region was held in July of 2004, in Havana, Cuba, counting representatives of Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua. Costa Rica was present as an observer. The remaining countries, Panama and Guatemala are not integrated yet and Belize decided to join the CARA region on historical grounds.
In the first General Asembly, the board of CEARA was chosen, in the presence of Mr Leo Tromp, president of the AITA/IATA as a honorable witness. The Board is represented by the following people:
The Board has a four year mandate from 2004 to 2008.
