The World Festival of Children's Performing Arts
in Toyama Japan 2008
As we all know, the First Toyama International Amateur Theatre Festival (TIATF '83) was held in Toyama and was the First International Theatre Festival in Asia. Since then, four TIATFs had been held - in '85, '89, '92, and '96. In 2000, as the official festival of AITA/IATA, the Sixth World Festival of Children's Theatre in Toyama was held and all agreed it was a great success. The unexpected triumph of the Festival was due to the support of many volunteers who worked together to support all the international events in Toyama, not just the theatre performances but also the arts and cultural events.
In 2004, the Asia-Pacific Festival of Children's Theatre took place and the experience of these two Children's Festivals, as well as the excitement and feeling of harmony among the participants, suggested the idea of holding a children's festival of all performing arts, including theatre. Thus the First World Festival of Children's Performing Arts will be held this summer, in Toyama.
As well as six hundred people from sixteen countries of the five continents of the world and ten Japanese groups, a great many of the children of Toyama will also participate in this Festival under the banner 'We Build The Future.' The event will take place from 31st July to 5th August 2008 and this First World Festival of Children's Performing Arts - for children, by children and adults – will include performances, seminars and workshops. There will also be a Forum of Performing Arts for the disabled, and an Asian Amateur Theatre Summit is planned so that the cause of international understanding and mutual friendship will be promoted further.
