Unfortunately, Washington Masenda, National Director of the ASSITEJ/AITA office, was unable to be in Monaco but he reports that his key message is about reviving many activities and the recruitment of Members to join the ASSITEJ and AITA/IATA National Centre. He has targeted the creative arts clubs of Primary and Secondary Schools because Zimbabwe has up to 9,000 Primary and Secondary School.
Zimbabwe will host a three Nations festival in 2018 with Zambia and Botswana in Hwange, Matatbeleland, North Province, about 100 Km from Victoria Falls. Washington hopes to be able to invite the AITA/AITA Council to attend.
Washington has also set up workshops, public forums and meetings to reach out to potential AITA/AITA members in Zimbabwe’s ten provinces. Together As One, one of the longest serving members of ASSITEJ / IATA Zimbabwe, will host the Mugariro Community Arts Festival (23 – 28 Oct), a six-day event with the theme “Bridging the Gap Through Community Participation”. It will hold its Silver Jubilee on 25 October 2017. The Festival has attracted local and corporate funding and participants will include amateur productions from the Zimbabwe Defence Force, Air Force, Police and National Correctional service. This latter organisation will include Prisoners who are bringing teams on crime rehabilitation.
Washington concludes by saying that Zimbabwe is very proud to be the Zimbabwe National Centre of AITA/IATA.
